Modernization allows you to upgrade an old elevator system with the latest high-tech components to improve its overall performance. For example, you might replace outdated control equipment with a solid-state drive and microprocessor to increase elevator efficiency and decrease waiting time.

The professionals at STAR can upgrade your out-dated system with either individual components or a complete system. STAR is equipped to perform all degrees of modernization. Additionally, STAR has the experience to ensure minimal disruption to your customers and tenants during the transformation period.

There are several indications that your elevator equipment needs to be upgraded:

• Is the equipment an eyesore?
• Is the equipment more than 15 years old?
• Have there been complaints from tenants such as inaccurate leveling, long waiting times, lobby congestion, slow-opening doors?
• Are you upgrading the building?
• Is your vertical transportation system adequate for the number of people the building serves?
• Has the number of tenants recently changed?
• Has there been an increase in breakdowns or repairs?
• Are replacement parts obsolete?

We offer surveys of the existing equipment in your building to assist you in making prudent decisions concerning your elevator equipment.

ADA Compliance

An ADA evaluation determines whether your elevators comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines. A STAR ELEVATOR representative will answer any questions you may have concerning ADA guidelines and readily suggest the appropriate actions if you are not in compliance.

The Americans with Disabilities Act is a law guaranteeing comprehensive civil rights to people with disabilities. The legislation requires "places of public accommodation," "commercial facilities," and "transportation facilities" are designed so that they are readily accessible to and usable by people with disabilities.

To make your building accessible and usable you may be required to make some modifications to your elevators. If you find that you are not in compliance with the law, STAR can accomplish any upgrade quickly and cost efficiently. You may be eligible for a Federal tax credit or Federal tax deduction to compensate for the costs associated with ADA upgrades. Contact your tax consultant for details.
